United Airlines will provide customers on most flights over two hours the opportunity to purchase beer, wine and other alcoholic drinks. In a press release, the company announced that it was expanding this service and introducing a revamped menu. This menu will be offered to most flights over 1,500 miles, or on hub-to-hub trips over 800 miles. Toby Enqvist, chief customer officer for United, said, “We know that having a wide variety of gourmet food and beverage options is important to our customers and we look forward to introducing these exciting, new options to enhance their flying experience. Our new contactless payment technology enables us to safely introduce this new menu on select flights as we continue to see more customers return to flying.”

United Airlines Receives Hospital-Grade Certification for Cleaning and Safety
United is the first of the four largest U.S airlines to be certified Diamond by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) and SimpliFlying
CHICAGO, Jan. 12, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Today, United Airlines was recognized by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) and SimpliFlying for providing a hospital-grade standard of cleanliness and safety during the travel journey. United is the first airline among the four largest U.S. carriers to receive the highest possible certification – Diamond – in the new APEX Health Safety audit powered by SimpliFlying. This new scientifically-based certification is designed to create a recognized, global standard for health and safety across the aviation industry.
“Since the start of this pandemic, United has been committed to pursuing industry leading safety measures to protect the wellbeing of our customers and employees,” said Sasha Johnson, United’s vice president of Corporate Safety. “This recognition from APEX and SimpliFlying underscores that United will continue to innovate and raise the standard when it comes to preventing the spread of COVID-19.”
To achieve this certification, United submitted detailed responses for audit against a 58-point checklist covering ten categories, including things like testing, contact tracing, on-the-ground procedures, in-flight measures, and strategic partnerships. For each cleaning and safety measure noted on the checklist, United shared proof points for further review by the APEX and SimpliFlying experts. United’s certification as a Diamond airline means that the company’s initiatives were at least 200 points above the gold-standard baseline APEX and SimpliFlying established as the minimum required to ensure passenger safety and well-being.
“United Airlines’ tremendous customer-centric investments definitively merited the Diamond level of health safety across a broad scoreboard of categories focused on passenger wellbeing,” APEX CEO Dr. Joe Leader said. “We applaud United’s thought-leadership across key initiatives that have benefited both customers of United Airlines and the airline industry. Passengers and airline team members should be proud of United Airlines’ continuous advancements for customer wellbeing.”

United Airlines To Shutter Three International Crew Bases
United Airlines announced that it would cut three of its international cabin crew bases. The airline is planning to make the cuts from October when the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) act ends. United has offered these staff members a lifeline, but is a promise it can follow through with?
For United Airlines, staff unemployment has looked to be on the cards for a while. Having invested in several plans to conserve cash and tighten its operation, it was only a matter of time before the airline looked to reduce its headcount.
In an internal memo, seen by Reuters, United Airlines announced on Friday (June 5th) that it would be closing three of its foreign flight attendant bases. With just four of them anyway, this figure represents a shut down of 75%. The decision leaves 840 United crew without jobs come October 1st.
United Airlines executives to employees: Travel demand ‘likely will not bounce back quickly’
United Airlines executives told employees that “even when travel demand starts to inch back, it likely will not bounce back quickly” in a letter posted Wednesday that details the status of the company amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“The challenge that lies ahead for United is bigger than any we have faced in our proud 94-year history,” Oscar Munoz, CEO, and J. Scott Kirby, president, wrote to the Chicago-based airline’s nearly 100,000 employees.
United is receiving about $5 billion from the federal government, the executives wrote, thanks to the payroll support program under the CARES Act, and “we’re keeping our promise that there will be no involuntary furloughs or pay rate cuts for U.S. employees before Sept. 30.”
why is United balking during coronavirus crisis?
The text from United Airlines popped up on Joe Bushee’s iPhone just before dinner on Sunday.
“Your flight UA366 from Hartford to Denver is canceled due to the unprecedented circumstances currently affecting travel,” it said.
United just gave 28,000 employees snappy new custom Carhartt uniforms
Airlines frequently team up with designer brands to dress their frontline employees such as pilots, flight attendants, and airport staff in eye-catching uniforms, but those worn by below-wing employees often don’t get the same attention.
United Airlines recently debuted the newest uniforms for workers in its technical operations, ramp service, and catering operations departments, custom-designed by Carhartt Company Gear.
Workers in those departments perform functions such as loading and unloading baggage, fixing mechanical issues with the aircraft, and providing catering items for the aircraft.
Carhartt joins Brooks Brothers and Tracy Reese as designers for United’s employees. The Michigan-based company is known for its workwear and has worked with other airlines including Alaska Airlines for apparel in its 131-year history.
United Airlines ‘Star Wars’ plane makes maiden flight
A United Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft painted with a Star Wars-themed livery departed Thursday afternoon on its maiden flight from United’s hub at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston en route to Orlando, Florida.
For United and the Walt Disney Co.’s (NYSE: DIS) hugely popular and lucrative “Star Wars” franchise, that first flight has turned into a very big deal indeed.
On Thursday morning United’s growing social media team bombarded major social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, with a new video showing the dramatic transformation of one United-branded aircraft into a plane with a fully fleshed out “Star Wars” paint job.
Increasingly, United is using social media platforms to communicate with customers and fans of the brand. And for United, “Star Wars” is a perfect vehicle to play off of as the carrier further develops social media connections with millennial and Gen X customers.
